Keeping Movement Safe, Enjoyable and Accessible For Everyone.
When people think about staying active, they often picture a rigid fitness programme with strict upfront payment commitments, where if you miss a class you fall behind and are penalised financially. But at MOVEability, we believe movement should fit around your life, your health and your comfort level – not the other way around.
Making physical activity flexible isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s fundamental to what we call The MOVEability Way. Whether it’s adjusting to extreme weather, managing a long-term condition or simply having an “off” day, flexibility is what keeps movement safe, enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
Freedom to Move on Your Own Terms
In the summer months – and indeed all year round – we want to remind you that with MOVEability, you only pay when you attend.
Many of our participants live with fluctuating health conditions and don’t know from one day to the next how they will be feeling. A flare-up, low energy, or the extra strain brought on by extreme weather like a hot summer day can make making plans difficult. You shouldn’t ever be penalised for taking care of yourself, which is why we never force you into upfront contracts or block commitments.
Maintaining that flexibility is at the very core of our mission, but it takes community support to make it happen. Fundraising efforts and grants really help us to keep doing exactly that, ensuring our classes remain accessible, affordable, and stress-free for everyone who needs them.
What Does “The MOVEability Way” Look Like in Practice?
Flexibility is so much more than about how far you can stretch – it’s about how easily you can join in. We build freedom of choice into every aspect of our sessions:
1. Pay-As-You-Go Flexibility: Come when you can, skip when you need to. No subscriptions, no lost fees.
2. In-Person or Online: Choose between popping into one of our community classes, or joining us virtually from the comfort of your living room.
3. The Power of Movement: In every session, we liken our routine to climbing up and back down a hill together. Some of us climb gently, others with a bit more energy, but everyone travels at their own pace. There is never any pressure to keep up or get every move “right”.
4. Seated and Low-Impact Exercises: By using a chair as our base, we remove the fear of tripping or losing balance, making it safe for all ages, mobility levels, and health conditions.

Adapting Beyond the Weather
The successive heatwaves this summer have served to highlight why this flexible approach is important When temperatures rise, pushing through intense exercise can be uncomfortable or unsafe, especially for older adults or those living with chronic health conditions. Gentle, seated movement – or joining online from a cool room at home – allows you to stay active safely. Read more here about how to exercise safely in warmer weather and how to keep yourself and your living space cool.
But extreme weather is just one piece of the puzzle. The need for a compassionate, flexible approach happens every single day:
- Fluctuating Energy & Pain: On days when stiffness or fatigue set in, you don’t have to miss out completely. You can do smaller movements or simply sit back, listen to the music, and enjoy the social atmosphere.
- Carers & Busy Schedules: If you care for a loved one, getting out of the house at a fixed time every week isn’t always straightforward. Having low-barrier, pay-as-you-go options makes taking time for your own well-being realistic.
- Mental Health & Confidence: High-pressure fitness spaces can feel intimidating. A warm, friendly environment with zero judgment gives you the space to step in whenever you feel ready.

More Than Just Exercise
When you remove the stress of rigid bookings, financial pressure, and physical strain, exercise stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like a joy.
At its heart, The MOVEability Way is about creating a community where everyone feels welcome, supported, and free to move in a way that feels good for their body today.
