Health, Movement and Community: Join Us in Chieveley on 29th October

Older person taking part in research

Here at MOVEability, our classes are always about much more than exercise. Over the years they have become known to our regulars as a social gathering with purpose – a warm, welcoming space to meet people, connect and look out for one another.

That is why we are so looking forward to welcoming a very special guest to our seated chair exercise class in Chieveley on Thursday 29th October 2026.

What’s Happening on the Day?

The class will be attended by staff from the research vehicle operated by the South Central Ambulance Service.

This visit is part of a collaborative project between one of our partners CCB (Connecting Communities in Berkshire) and the Voluntary Sector Health Alliance, who are working together alongside Be Part of Research – an NHS service that helps connect willing volunteers with health and care studies that matter to them.

If you have ever been curious about how healthcare research actually works, this is a great opportunity to meet NHS staff, ask questions and discover firsthand what participating can involve – all in the familiar, relaxed setting of our Chieveley class.

Exploring the Social Frailty Study

One of the studies being highlighted during the visit is the Social Frailty Screening Tool project.

This conversational study looks at an important and often overlooked topic: how we can better identify and support people who might be at risk as they age, of losing the social relationships and support networks that help us all stay connected, independent and well.

Loneliness and isolation can creep up on anyone, and finding proactive ways to protect our social connections is vital.

A topic that is very close to our hearts and a driver behind the Big Christmas Lunches and our fundraising efforts to support them.

The NHS research staff visiting our Chieveley class will be happy to chat through this study, share details and explain how anyone interested can take part.
