MOVEability has teamed up with Connecting Communities in Berkshire (CCB) to work with the Research Engagement Network and the Thames Valley Voluntary Sector Health Alliance. Together, we are helping to spread the word about the benefits of getting involved in health and care research. By doing so, we can really help shape the future.
From now until late May, we will be discussing this at our classes and asking for your feedback. We would like to know if there are any particular health conditions you are interested in finding out more about or where you might consider taking part in future research.
Research is vital for understanding how to make lives healthier and happier, but it relies on participation from people of all ages and backgrounds to be effective. The broader the range of people taking part, the more likely it is that the results will benefit everyone. Whether you are currently healthy or living with a condition, your perspective is valuable.
Why this work is worthwhile
- Play your part: Participation helps in the development of new medicines, scanning technology and social care delivery.
- Represent your community: People from marginalised groups often miss out on sharing their views, which can leave research unrepresentative of the whole population. We have joined forces with CCB because the majority of our classes are in rural areas where experiences of accessing care often differ from those in urban centres.
- Better understanding: Without participants, those in a position to make a difference cannot fully understand the impact of lifestyles on conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and mental health.
- No obligation: Signing up to the Research Registry does not commit you to any specific study, but it helps us track the success of this local campaign.
When people like us contribute to research projects like this one, it increases the chance of new treatments and therapies being developed . If you would like to learn more about how research shapes the future of health and care, please visit the link below.
