The MOVEability Way – Part Four – Muscle Strengthening Exercises

We have now reached the fourth part of this series – your opportunity to have a closer look at our classes as we take you up and over our metaphorical hill. We’re at the summit!  Give yourself a pat on the back! MOVEability's Debbie with her 'co-pilot' Derek during a seated chair exercise class at Alice Bye Court in Thatcham Berkshire

Let Everyone Shine

It had begun like any other class when, partway through, Derek, one of our regulars, suddenly got up, walked to the front and stood next to me. I reached for a chair and asked Derek if he wanted to be my co-pilot. Did he agree? What happened next?

Our dance and exercise class a hit for people with Parkinson’s

It’s hard to believe that more than a year has past since MOVEability joined forces with Parkinson’s UK, working with the Newbury and District Branch of this amazing charity. We’ve had lots of fun and met some incredible people – some of whom are featured in this blog – so naturally, we are delighted that the funding of our fortnightly classes will continue into 2024. See what our regulars have to say, and why not come and give them a try.

Laura Farris MP with Debbie Medlin of MOVEability and some of the Chieveley class

A cup of tea with an MP

Say hello to our crowdfunding page

Becoming a social enterprise was an easy decision. We exist to improve lives. Many of our regulars live with chronic illnesses and money is often tight. Or they are retired people on modest incomes. We are committed to keeping our class prices affordable – we don’t enforce subscriptions or upfront payments, only charging for the classes our clients attend. For that we need ongoing funding, so we set up a crowdfunding page. Want to help us keep our classes affordable? Find out how you can contribute.

As such, we often only have ourselves to rely on to do everything from hoovering the house and doing the weekly shopping to reading the gas and electricity meters. And a growing number are doing it well into their eighties or nineties.  We are living longer, but our quality of life does not necessarily correlate with the quantity. Exercise can change that!

Enhancing Lives

When you ask people why they exercise, you expect them to say ‘to get fitter’, ‘to become healthier,’ or ‘to get stronger.’ It might therefore surprise you to hear that
