Putting the Fun into Fundraising – a Day to Remember at the Thatcham Family Fun Day.

When one of our amazing instructors, Debbie Mumford, suggested that we organise a tombola and raffle stall at the annual Thatcham Family Fun Day last month, we jumped at the chance. What better way to raise funds for a valuable initiative we’re planning later in the year for all of our clients and supporters, all whilst connecting with one of the communities our classes serve?

Our team also saw this as the perfect opportunity to spread the word about our fabulous seated chair exercises classes that we run in various locations throughout West Berkshire, including Thatcham, as well as online. Additionally, we wanted to showcase just how much our classes can benefit those looking for a fun and engaging form of low-impact exercise.

A chance to dance

The weather was beautiful, and even the heat couldn’t keep us from demonstrating some of our favourite chair exercise moves. Visitors of all ages danced along to the popular tunes we played throughout the day. It was truly a joyful experience. We were thrilled to have the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Thatcham stop by; they expressed an interest in coming along to the class in Thatcham as soon as their busy schedules allow, so we must have made a good impression. Although the Deputy Mayor will have heard from his wife, Jenny, all about our classes, as she has been attending our online classes for several years, and her mum, Ann, is a regular at our Thatcham class.

Dream team

Debbie Mumford, along with her friends Sue Perry, Julie Campbell and Christine Purnell, have to be commended for all the hard work they put in organising and running the stall. They did so well that we had nothing left at the end of the day. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible regulars, friends, and everyone in the MOVEability family who generously donated prizes. Your support means the world to us.

It was a great day all round. To quote Debbie.

We really enjoyed the opportunity to show the people of Thatcham how warm and welcoming we are and just how fun chair exercise can be! What a great way it is to socialise, make new friends whilst keeping your body moving.

All for a brilliant cause

Debbie and her friends, who were joined on the day by MOVEability founder Debbie Medlin, raised an impressive £450, which will go toward our MOVEability Christmas Lunch Initiative. Each year, a number of our class regulars face spending Christmas alone, and we want to help make the festive season a bit more special for them. This event will also serve as a way to thank everyone for their support. The Christmas lunch will be open to everyone in the MOVEability family and will be our largest social gathering to date. As Debbie explains,

MOVEability is the highlight of the week for some of our clients. To build on the strong sociable environment we have fostered in our classes, we came up with the idea of hosting a big Christmas lunch for all our clients and supporters, making the most of the fun and socialising we do so well to celebrate this special time of year.”

Stay tuned for future fundraising efforts, including paragliding and a Christmas raffle—all in aid of helping the MOVEability team foster social connections, exercise, and have a great time with our valuable clients and supporters, without whom, MOVEability would not exist.

Watch this space

We’re committed to making this event unforgettable, so keep an eye out for Debbie Mumford’s paragliding challenge – we’re very much looking forward to that one! The raffle and other fundraising activities will also help make this special lunch an event to remember. Our class participants, supporters, and everyone else who helps make MOVEability possible truly deserve it.
