We’re celebrating one of our wonderful seated chair exercise instructors, Debbie Mumford, a true inspiration who embodies the spirit of our MOVEability community. A fundraising extraordinaire, Debbie recently put her heart and soul into organising a fundraising tea party. The event brought together friends, neighbours, and MOVEability class participants to raise an incredible amount for Breast Cancer Now.
On Sunday, August 17, Debbie hosted a delightful garden tea party that not only served up delicious cakes but also served a greater purpose. She was initially inspired to organise the event after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Then, a neighbour, who is a breast cancer survivor, mentioned they wanted to use their birthday as a fundraiser. The result? A beautiful gathering that raised a staggering £828 this year, a huge increase from the £505 raised last year.
A Community Effort
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces from our classes in attendance, including Barbara Bench, Linda Howes, Mary New, Janet and Michael Church, Audrey Mumford, and John and Gill Learoyd. The event was a true team effort, with everyone contributing by either baking or bringing delicious treats. The spread was absolutely spectacular, featuring everything from classic Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle to savoury sausage rolls and cheese straws.

A Testament to Compassion
This year’s successful event marks the second year of the fundraiser, and Debbie already has plans underway to make it an annual tradition. “I am grateful for everyone’s support and generosity,” Debbie says, “which will help fund vital research and support for those affected by breast cancer.”
At MOVEability, we believe in promoting not only physical health but also the health and well-being of our community. Debbie’s dedication to this cause is a testament to the compassion and generosity that runs through our team and those who support us. We are already looking forward to supporting her with her next fundraising efforts, including her upcoming paraglide in October, to raise funds for our very own big Christmas lunch in an effort to combat loneliness. She truly is making a difference one fundraiser at a time and is a true asset to our team.
The Sky’s the Limit
Debbie has another fundraising adventure coming up, and this time, the sky’s the limit! Watch this space for more details on how you can support her next challenge.
